Telephone Discounts Can Help you Stay in Touch

Minnesota's Telephone Assistance Plan (TAP) and the Federal Lifeline Program help make telephone service affordable to Low-income consumers.

TAP offers a $10.00 per month discount on home landline telephone service. If you are eligible for the Lifeline Program then you will be automatically enrolled in TAP without having to fill out a TAP form. 
Lifeline Program offers a $10.00 per month discount on internet only service or internet service bundled with phone service. The Lifeline Program offers $5.25 for standalone landline voice service or standalone wireless voice service.

RULES:

  • If you get Lifeline for phone service, you can get the benefit for one mobile phone or your home phone but not both.
  • If you get Lifeline for internet service, you can get the benefit for one mobile phone or your home phone but not both
  • If you get Lifeline for phone and internet service bundle, you can get the benefit for one mobile phone or your home phone but not both
  • A household is a group of people who live and share income and expenses (even if they are not related to each other)

How do I find out if I am Eligible?
Contact your service provider to ask if you Qualify. Consumers enrolled in the following programs may already be eligible.

Non- Tribal Specific Programs
* Federal Public Housing ( FPHA)
* Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (FOOD STAMPS)
* Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
* Veterans Pensions or Survivors Pension Benefits
* Medicaid
Tribal Specific Programs
* Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
* Tribal Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
* Tribal Head Start (only households that meet the income qualifying standards)
* Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
